Why do you want to join Echoes' police faction?
Largely to show my support for the server and contribute to the growing structure, while also allowing myself a more diverse and interesting perspective in roleplay. I believe it will be a great learning opportunity for me, letting me figure things out and discover how the system works while the server is still young and not heaping pressure on me for not knowing everything. The workings of the police force have long fascinated me, coming from a family well-involved in law enforcement. As I'm still unable to pursue a career in this OOCly, and can only research so much, it's something I would like to experience in whatever capacity possible ICly.
What would you do if you accidentally broke a law, and someone began to argue with you OOC?:
After ensuring that I did indeed break a law, I would acknowledge the fact that I made a mistake and sincerely apologize for it. After this, I would look back over the rules and laws, familiarizing myself with them once more to avoid breaking one of them again.
If someone was insulting you OOC for not following a common law (such as reading their rights), what would you do/say?:
After apologizing for completely spacing out and forgetting something important like that, I would correct my actions ICly and ensure my character follows this rule. If the insults continued, I would ask that they calm down and remember that I'm just as prone to mistakes as anyone else is. If they continue even after this (god I hope not), I would contact a staff member and screenshot the interaction and my attempts at de-escalating the situation.
What do you do if you arrest someone? Be short, but detailed:
I would ensure I have probable cause to do so, then identify myself as an officer if I have not already done so. I would then inform the individual that they are being arrested, and the reason for it. After this, I would take physical control of the individual, cuff them, read them their rights, and take them into custody.
If someone is behaving strangely, as if they were using illegal substances, what do you do?:
Ensure that no one in the surrounding area was in danger from the individual, then approach them calmly yet cautiously depending on what sort of 'strange' we're talking. If the individual did present a considerable danger, I would request another officer if available for backup. If not, I would try to talk with the individual to gain greater insight into the situation. If necessary, I would use whatever tools I had available to confirm my suspicions, then act appropriately depending on what the results were.
If someone will not give you their identity and you don't have probable cause, what do you do?:
I wouldn't press the situation. There is no evidence that they have committed a crime or been involved with such activity, therefore there is no basis for me to take things further. They are absolutely allowed to walk away from the interaction without further questioning.
If someone refuses to identify themselves because of the 5th amendment, but you have probable cause, what do you do?:
Detain them and inform them that I have probable cause, asking another time for their information. If they continue to refuse, I'll arrest them (following the protocol for doing so) and gain access to their identity through other measures such as fingerprints and checking the database.
Provide us with your character's backstory. Please attempt to limit yourself to more-or-less 1,500 words (maximum 2,500):
Micah Grant, born to a set of proud individuals in the South, grew up with good manners and an adventurous childhood. Although he made many friends, not all took a liking to the man. In fact, he often found himself in altercations during or after school, coming home bruised and beaten. His father, refusing to allow this to continue happening, enrolled Micah in boxing lessons. This taught him a sort of control over his reflexes and reactions, building muscle and mental strength as he gained confidence in himself.
He went into high school with a new respect for himself, studying hard and working to build a reputation. Micah became known as someone you didn't want to mess with, not because he was a hot head, but because he would gladly defend his name in whatever manner necessary- And he was good at it, too. After school, he would often hang out with his friends doing.. less-than-legal activites, however nothing serious - just your typical teenage mischief. He kept his skills in use, sparring with his buddies and picking up a few things along the way.
One particularly eventful evening, Micah found himself in a holding cell for assault. This one and only encounter with law enforcement fascinated him, the way things were handled prompting him to be eager to learn more. After he was questioned, he was released on account of it being self-defense. With his mother fussing over him after being brought home, Micah couldn't help but notice the proud gleam in his father's eyes- quickly followed by a sheepish glance towards his mother.
After graduating high school with excellent grades, the man was accepted into a college in Texas; his home state. Micah majored in history, having greatly enjoyed the subject during high school and being eager to learn more about it. This taught him critical thinking skills, how to analyze events, and proficiency in research and writing. Four years later, with a fresh bachelor's degree, Micah learned of a place named East Falls. Instead of moving back home with his family, he went out on his own to create a life for himself in this peculiar town.
It's now been four years since he made this decision, and he's managed to keep his name pretty unknown, enjoying a quiet life as he figured things out. Now that he's made himself quite comfortable with the town and his life here, he's decided to try and once again make a name for himself. Only time will tell how he goes about doing so, but Micah's thrilled to get started.
