OOC:

How much do you know about first-aid and general medicine?:

I'd say I know a fairly decent amount, considering I've taken first-aid classes in real life and have had an odd fixation on medical-based roleplay for a while!

Give us 3 examples of injuries, and their resolution:

For the sake of brevity, I'll be simple with common ones:

Sprain: when a ligament is damaged or stretched. Treatments vary from RICE (rest, ice, compress, elevate) to potential surgery, but most commonly braces or physical therapy are used.

Burn: when the skin is damaged by a hot item, the sun, electricity, or certain chemicals. Treatments vary from at-home treatments like over-the-counter burn cream to cool water to skin grafts and hydrotherapy.

Cuts and/or lacerations: when the skin is broken, typically by a sharp item. Treatment can vary from covering the wound to stitching it shut.

Why do you want to join the hospital faction on Echoes? Answer this OOC:

I'm not gonna lie to you. I wasn't even planning on playing my medic OC originally, but Mel convinced me to. To be fair, I also didn't know there was a hospital faction until Mel told me. Otherwise, medical roleplay has always interested me and I find it fun, having done it in many different settings from realism to fantasy.

How would you deal with someone that was FailRPing inside of the hospital?:

Cry. Kidding, it really depends on the person. If they're a new player or seem to be lacking RP experience, I'd explain gently that what they're doing can't happen and/or isn't allowed. If it's someone intentionally being disruptive, I'd have to call in backup (read: a staff member.)

Provide us with 2 some-what detailed actions of your character helping an injured person. You can choose the injury or illness.

Genesis's hazel eyes fleck with annoyance as he rolls the gurney in towards the emergency department. The patient's bleeding from their gut, and one of Gen's own hands applies pressure to the wound, which is wrapped with a makeshift set of gauze. It's crude, but Genesis can't be bothered to be grateful nor annoyed, because right now that makeshift padding is what's keeping the patient alive. When the patient is finally given space, Genesis demands the nurses to get an IV started while he disinfects and cleans the wound before stitching it shut with simple sutures.

Genesis Verisian hates when people come in for a stomachache. It's so simple, so common, and yet there's so many different causes. He's not very charismatic when he asks the patient the routine questions of;

"What medications are you on? Any recent surgeries?"

…and when it's nothing common, and the bloodwork comes back negative, he sends them home with anti-nausea tablets and a prescription to 'drink more water, dumbass.'

Provide us with your character’s backstory. Please attempt to limit yourself to more-or-less 1,500 words (maximum 2,500):

 MOTHER'S HISTORY

Reina Verisian, daughter of Yorke Verisian; and Genesis's mother. An acute awareness to other human's feelings, perhaps - no, definitely too sharp to allow herself to handle it. She rested all of humanity's dreams and losses on her shoulders, even those whom she didn't know the names of. The flashes of pain when she strolled through the school hallways, the mental visions that appeared before her eyes whenever she strolled through a hospital. The terror that overtook her when she drove past a graveyard.

Yorke knew who he had Reina with. Reina knew who her parents were, her mother a 'free spirit' - though she refused to take it in. It was just lies. That's all she wanted to believe, even if she knew she was wrong. It tore her apart, and to cope she turned to alcohol and drugs.

Eventually, around Reina's early twenties, she stepped foot into rehab and made an attempt at getting better. Once released, she met Raphael. He was tall, dark-haired, with a bright smile that shone down on her withering plants and brought them life once more. It was a brief relationship of a few months, but there was a result out of it:

Genesis.

GENESIS'S HISTORY

A child. That's what was sourced out of Raphael and Reina's relationship. A difficult pregnancy for Reina, but Genesis made it and so did his mother. He was born intersex, and Reina didn't allow the doctors to choose a specific gender to force him to stick to. From youth, Reina referred to Genesis as her 'child', and didn't raise him with any specific gender stereotypes in mind. She let him choose how he wanted to dress, even as a toddler, no matter how ridiculous he looked.

He vaguely recalls frequent 'vacations' away from his home in lower Los Angeles. Road trips he had fun on, vacations that were a life he never truly got to experience. Realistically, these trips were his mother meeting with different men and finding different substances for use.

As Genesis aged, this was a discovery he made. School was difficult for Genesis, as any kid who struggles with a home life sees, and he was often ostracized from his classmates. On the bright side, he managed to make a couple friends with the same issues he had on his own. Frequent freak accidents occured, typically revolving around fire, though the source was never determined clearly. His home life wasn't good by any standards. Reina was with a different man every week, and each one treated her as terribly as the rest. Genesis ended up getting a shorter end of the stick in most of these cases. A child? Of a different guy? Terrible. He was treated like the bane of their existence and his own mother's.

Absolutely shattering.

School was hard enough on its own. The two friends he clung to, Emilia and Adam, struggled just as much as he did. Adam battled homework considerably less than the other two, but they all fought to work to higher places. Frequently, the three were considered the scapegoats of their grade. It was common for them to end up in the principal's office for some odd reason that sometimes even they couldn't source.

Home life and school life were both a struggle. Emilia and Adam had roughly the same issues that Genesis went through, and they all wrote up a plan.  A plan to escape. To run. To freedom, to live how they'd always wanted to. To be happy kids. They knew it wasn't right, the way they were living, so they were determined to make it right.

Reina caught on briefly, and while forcing herself to attempt sobriety, brought Genesis to church fairly frequently. Just like everywhere else he stepped, he was an outcast. Here, it was because he refused to conform to norms that the church wanted to push onto him. A child doesn't understand why he needs to wear a dress or pants. He doesn't understand why you yell at him that God won't love him. He doesn't understand why.

Soon after, this plan fell apart. Reina's sobriety disappeared, and as did the act of going to church. The pain didn't fade, though, and as more men continued to show up at Reina's apartment, the worse it got. Genesis began to mirror their actions. In a home where a violent man begins, a home where a violent man will stay. He adopted the violent habits. The rage. The insults. The fury.

He held onto this so, so tightly. As much pain that Reina caused Genesis, he was determined to protect her. The day this had to come true, Genesis nearly killed a man. Reina was on the floor, sobbing with her hands on the boyfriend she called her one true love - just like the rest..

And that was the last time Genesis saw her.

Adam, Emilia, and Genesis were on a frantic run. They took a train, riding like normal kids, having fun, laughing, stealing candy and cake from the carts until Emilia was crying. Everything between Emilia sobbing and the train aflame behind them is a blur to Genesis, and it seems like it'll never resurface fully in his memory.

After the train exploded, Adam was separated from Genesis and Emilia. Genesis clung to Emilia, who was in tears, while Adam tried to stay sensible - and it resorted in the three being separated. Genesis assumes Adam was sent home. Emilia and Genesis, though - they ran when they could. They moved across the States, heading towards the East Coast. New York was their best bet, right?

Adam was gone. Emilia and Genesis were moving. Running. The exhaustion and starvation scrubs most of the trip from Genesis's memory, but he knows he met Addie, a teenager on the run, headed the same direction Emilia and Genesis were - on the way to New York. A hope for safety. Knowledge that they could be safe, even with the terror following them. Knowing that they could live happily in peace.

Until peace was a lie, and red and blue lights flashed. Addie met the back of a cruiser, while Emilia joined a Social Services lady in her vehicle. Genesis was put into foster care. Reina Verisian either wasn't able to be located - or didn't want to be located.

While Genesis grew up in and out of foster families, he did, in fact age out of the foster care system. While he lacked support, he refused to follow the same path his mother took: he fought for scholarships, for education, and eventually took the route of an emergency medic. College wasn't easy, but Genesis learned quickly. He picked up things faster than a lot of people. He spent his nights on caffeine and focus. And finally, he gained his certifications, his degrees. He wasn't the only one without family at his graduation, but he was certainly one of few.

A printed message would be on the paper, “Hello! Thank you for applying to Echoes’ Hospital. We appreciate your interest! Please read through this paper and answer the questions. We will consider you for hiring once it is submitted. We will try to get back to you as soon as we possibly can. Thank you again!” The paper was signed by the hospital director.

Degree(s):

 BSN [Bachelor's Science in Nursing]

What position are you applying for? You may state a position that is not currently available, and it will be checked once that slot opens:

Doctor.

Why do you want to work on our team?:

I'd like to work on your team because.. well, simply put, it's my main career path and I've just recently moved here. This is my new home and I'm looking to start a proper career here. I've got a past in medicine and am very to-the-point about what I do.

Provide a list of staff titles and their jobs/descriptions:

Doctor: Refers to an individual that has a more specified area of expertise. Job description consists of handling the physical treatment of injuries and maladies, but is not limited to such. Generally an overall encompassing term for medical staff.

Physician: Refers to an individual who more often than not treats illnesses and otherwise internal afflictions. Sicknesses, viruses, and bacterial infections usually fall under a physician's scope, but physicians are not limited to such.

Therapist: Therapists handle the more personal side of mental health. They speak with the patient and are there to mostly talk the patient through coping methods, constructive criticism, and life situations.

Psychiatrist: Psychiatrists tend to lean towards the medical section of helping with mental disorders. They're more often the ones to prescribe individuals with potential medications that may or may not function, and are usually the ones to give proper diagnoses in conjuncture with therapists.

Whilst in the hospital how should you and your co-workers behave? If you see something wrong, what should you do about it?:

"While in the hospital, myself and my coworkers should handle ourselves professionally. That's not to say that a majority of things aren't professional, and perceptions of 'professionalism' varies, but it's simple to act the adult and not 'target' or 'bully' other coworkers or patients - jokes are light-hearted, but not over-the-top. If something is being treated improperly, it should be taken to higher-ups."

What experience do you have working in a medical setting? If none, put N/A:

"I worked as an ER nurse for two years in New York."

What responsibilities do you hold as a hospital staff member?:

"Keeping my space clean, treating patients with respect and care, upholding the values of the hospital and the medical code, treating my coworkers with respect.. I mean, I could go on and on. There's a lot. Are you sure you want me to recite it all?"

How would you manage a patient that was being uncooperative or rowdy?:

"Explain to them the issue. Depending on if treatment is dependent on their survival, if they are refusing then I am obligated to sedate and treat them. However, if it's something lesser, I can't force them to be treated. If the issue continues, I'll guide them out myself."

The paper ended with another message: “Thank you for taking the time to fill out this paper. We truly appreciate it! Before you can submit this, please sign the document!”
