Shortly describe 5 laws or behaviors that officers in the U.S have to follow:
Officers must respect the rights of individuals against unlawful searches as warrants must be obtained when it is required and the necessary probable cause to justify their actions of any searches or arrests they commit.
Officers must always ensure that their suspects are informed of their rights during their arrests or any interrogations as to avoid any kind of self-incrimination and to ensure the right to a legal counsel.
Officers are bound to laws and polices that their use of force to be reasonable and proportionate to the situation or situations they ever get involved with and any excessive or unnecessary force is extremely prohibited under by both federal and state laws unless a person poses an immediate life threat to any officers or bystanders
Officers must always document their actions accurately through any reports, body camera footage and testimonies as transparency ensures the accountability for officers, particularly in any case involving the use of force, arrests or citizen complains.
Officers are not allowed to use cruel or unusual punishments and are bound by this standard in their interactions with any detained individuals including the avoidance of any excessive force, abuse or inhumane treatment, especially in a custodial setting
Why do you want to join Echoes' police faction?:
My reasons for wanting to join the Echoes' police faction is that I already have some similar experience in working in a police faction from other servers, the ability to interact more with the police department as I find roleplaying as a police officer very thrilling to do and to interact more with the entire player base as a whole all together.
What would you do if you accidentally broke a law, and someone began to argue with you OOC?:
Well what I would do is double check the chat to see if I did anything or forgot to say anything in regards to their accusation, and if not I would then ask if they have any kind of proof against me while attempting to de-escalate the situation and getting staff to help resolve the issue in hopes to talk about it in a more civil manner. However if I did end up forgetting to do something I'd probably apologize and take any consequences if needed.
if someone was insulting you OOC for not following a common law (such as reading their rights) what would you do/say?:
Similar to the previous answer, I would check through the chat to see if I missed or forgot to do anything, if nothing pops up I will ask for them to provide proof while attempting to de-escalate and talk in a more civil way while seeing if any staff can help as well to figure everything out if needed, and if I did eventually forget something I would apologize and try to figure this out and take any consequence if needed what so ever.
What do you do if you arrest someone:
Well, to make sure I do everything right, but it also would depend on if I have a warrant to arrest them or its an active crime in scenario where it might turn into a chase, however unless they do not evade what so ever I would need to put them in hand cuffs as I read them their rights and depending on what they are being arrested, for example possession of illegal weaponry as if they were arrested for that i would not require a warrant to do so, I would need to search them for any weaponry on their person and confiscate it for evidence and to make sure that it doesn't cause any form of commotion in a public area to avoid any complications.
If someone is behaving strangely, as if they were using illegal substances, what do you do:
For one it would depend on where and when and how many people are around as to hopefully not cause any kind of commotion, I'd approach them and check on them to see if they are doing okay and if anything is wrong that could point to any form of harm physically or mentally, then I would see if they could speak and converse properly or any kind of indications that they could be using any illegal substances. Once I've done all that I would try to verbally confirm with them if they've had any form of illegal substances or that they are under the influence and to see if its a possible form of side effect in regards to medical treatment from a professional clinic worker as some medicines can cause such side effects. If they do so happen to have taken a substance, I would then need to detain them and question them and if it comes to it; arrest them for usage of illegal substances.
If someone will not give you their identity and you don't have probable cause, what do you do?:
If someone refuses to identify themselves while I don't have any probably cause then I wont push further past that point and not pester them about it as It would go against my code as an officer to protect the people and would be betraying my own work and morals.
If someone refuses to identify themselves because of the 5th amendment, but you have probable cause, what do you do?:
If I have the right probable cause based on my observations and their involvement in a crime while they refuse to identify themselves, I would still be able arrest them but that would depend on the jurisdiction's "stop and identify' laws which might require any individuals to provide identifications in specific situations.
Provide us with your character's backstory. Please attempt to limit yourself to more-or-less 1,500 words (Maximum 2,500):
Mikael Temple was born on March 21, 1952, in Los Angeles, California, into a family grappling with poverty and hardship. He was the third of five siblings—twin older brothers, a younger sister, and another sister whose age placed her between Mikael and the youngest. Their home, a cramped three-bedroom structure shared with extended family members, was a chaotic haven in a neighborhood plagued by high crime and economic instability. The older brothers often took on protective roles, while the younger sisters brought a sense of innocence and lightness to an otherwise challenging environment. Through it all, the Temples relied on one another to make it through.
Despite the challenges, the Temples found solace in each other. Their parents worked tirelessly to make ends meet. Mikael’s father, a factory worker, often returned home covered in grime, his body aching from the laborious shifts. His mother, who juggled multiple cleaning jobs, was the glue that held the household together. The siblings—each with their own distinct personality—found ways to support one another. The twins, being the eldest, naturally assumed leadership roles, teaching Mikael and their younger siblings valuable lessons in resilience and resourcefulness. Mikael’s bond with his sisters was equally significant. While his younger sister’s cheerful demeanor brought warmth to their home, the middle sister shared his curiosity about the world, often engaging him in conversations about their future.
From an early age, Mikael was captivated by the sight of law enforcement officers patrolling the streets. He often overheard their motto, "To protect and serve," and it resonated deeply with him. Whenever he heard commotion in the neighborhood, Mikael would rush to observe, watching the LAPD step in to de-escalate disputes or make arrests. These moments left an indelible impression on him, planting the seeds of a dream to join their ranks. For Mikael, the officers represented more than authority figures; they embodied hope and order in a chaotic environment.
As Mikael grew older, his admiration for law enforcement deepened, but so did his awareness of the complexities of the job. The increasing violence in their neighborhood revealed the challenges that officers faced daily. Mikael’s childhood fascination evolved into a mature resolve to contribute meaningfully to his community. Determined to turn his dreams into reality, he began working odd jobs to support his family while saving for his education. Balancing school, work, and family responsibilities was grueling, but Mikael’s determination never wavered. His dreams of becoming a police officer and providing a better future for his loved ones fueled his perseverance.
One particularly formative incident occurred when Mikael was 16. While working at a small convenience store to support his family, a group of armed thugs stormed in, demanding cash and goods. Fear gripped Mikael as he watched the robbery unfold. But when the assailants became momentarily distracted, Mikael seized the opportunity to slip out through a window. He sprinted several blocks to the nearest LAPD station, breathless and panicked, to report the crime. His detailed account enabled officers to act swiftly. Minutes later, the robbers were apprehended, and Mikael felt a profound sense of accomplishment.
Returning to the store after the ordeal, Mikael was overwhelmed with relief and pride as he saw the officers escorting the culprits away in handcuffs. The incident solidified his ambition to join law enforcement, not as a distant aspiration but as a tangible goal. That night, he shared the experience with his family, their worry mingling with admiration for his courage. His older brothers, in particular, offered Mikael words of encouragement, telling him he’d made them proud. His sisters listened intently, their wide-eyed expressions reflecting their amazement at his bravery.
By the time Mikael graduated high school, he was singularly focused on his next steps. He researched colleges offering programs in forensics and criminal justice, knowing that education would be key to achieving his dream. However, tuition fees loomed as a daunting obstacle. Undeterred, Mikael doubled down on his part-time work, saving every penny he could while continuing to contribute to his family’s finances. He also found ways to mentor his younger siblings, encouraging them to aim high despite their circumstances. Mikael’s commitment to his family remained unwavering, even as he pursued his ambitions.
After months of relentless effort, Mikael managed to save enough to apply to college. The day he received his acceptance letter marked a turning point in his life. His family celebrated the milestone, their pride tempered by the reality of his impending departure. While attending classes, Mikael took on additional jobs to cover his expenses, often sacrificing sleep and leisure. Despite the grueling schedule, he thrived academically, driven by an unwavering sense of purpose. Letters from his siblings kept him grounded, reminding him of the people who believed in him.
Over the next few years, Mikael earned his bachelor’s degree in Forensics and Criminal Justice. The achievement was a testament to his resilience and determination, but his journey was far from over. Returning home, he enrolled in the police academy, diving headfirst into rigorous training. The academy pushed him to his physical and mental limits, but Mikael embraced the challenges with the same tenacity that had carried him through college.
During his time at the academy, Mikael formed bonds with fellow trainees and mentors, particularly a Sergeant, a seasoned officer who recognized Mikael’s potential. Monroe’s guidance helped Mikael refine his skills and develop a deeper understanding of the responsibilities he was about to undertake. Beyond the physical drills and classroom lectures, Mikael learned invaluable lessons about empathy, integrity, and the importance of community engagement.
By 1984, Mikael had completed his training and was ready to begin his career. His family had since relocated to East Falls, a quieter suburb that promised a fresh start. Mikael spent his days preparing himself further, revisiting academy drills, keeping up with the news, and staying in top physical condition. He understood that every day he waited for his official start date was an opportunity to refine his skills and readiness.
In the interim, Mikael also reconnected with his family, finding moments of joy and laughter amidst their shared struggles. His siblings—particularly the twins, who had always been his mentors—reminded him of how far he had come. His younger sisters, proud of their brother’s accomplishments, eagerly asked about his future plans, dreaming alongside him about the change he could bring to their community.
As Mikael’s start date approached, he reflected on the long journey that had brought him to this point. From the scared teenager who ran to the LAPD for help during a robbery to the man ready to wear the badge himself, Mikael knew that his story was one of perseverance and purpose. His family’s unwavering support and his community’s need for hope had driven him every step of the way.
But when the time came to apply for a position, it was no longer a dream but a focused, deliberate move. He had set his sights on the East Falls Police Department. The small suburban department would require just as much commitment and courage as any big city precinct, but Mikael felt prepared. He had already witnessed the challenges of law enforcement in his childhood neighborhood, where danger and disorder seemed ever-present, but he had learned how officers could restore peace and provide hope. East Falls, with its quiet streets and tightly-knit community, was now his canvas—a place where he could truly make a difference.
The application process wasn’t easy. It required paperwork, interviews, and assessments that tested everything he had learned during his years of preparation. Mikael knew that his resume—his degree, his academy training, and his life experiences—was solid. But what truly made him stand out, he believed, was his understanding of the community he was hoping to serve. He wasn’t just applying for a job; he was applying for a chance to give back to the community that had shaped him.

While I hope this real motto isn't anything to be extremely worried about, I hope its the same like the the LAPD which would be: 'To protect and serve.'
