OOC:
Shortly describe 5 laws or behaviors that officers in the U.S. have to follow:
1| Fourth amendment; Officers must have either probable cause, or a warrant to search private property, unlawful searches or arrests without so will lead to it being dismissed in court.
2| Miranda rights : when an officer is taking a suspect into custody, they must first read them their Miranda rights, which include the right to remain silent and the right to an attorney, if they fail to do so any confessions made by the suspect will be inadmissible in court.
3| Use of force : Officers can only use force that is objectively reasonable within the situation they are in, excessive force leading to punishments to that officer if they fail to abide.
4| Fourteenth amendment : officers must enforce laws fairly, not discriminating on age, gender, race or other protected characteristics, profiling or biased policing is a civil rights violation.
5| If an officer witnesses a fellow policeman using excessive force, profiling or engaging in other disorderly conduct, they are legally obligated to intervene and report the incident.
Why do you want to join Echoes’ police faction?: After spending a few weeks engaging in GangRP, I've realised there are already far too many gangs.. And not enough police to engage them and balance things out, I believe with my activity on the server being as usual as it is, (Near daily) i can not only offer quality rp, but challenge GangRPers and the like. I have also always personally liked the idea of RPing as a cop.. I’ve done it previously on another platform and enjoyed it, so i’d like to give it a try on Echoes!
What would you do if you accidentally broke a law, and someone began to argue with you OOC?: If I accidentally broke a law, I would take accountability OOCLY, not arguing back with the person who accused me. If confronted ICLY, I would also have my character take accountability by reporting it to the sheriff.
If someone was insulting you OOC for not following a common law (such as reading their rights) what would you do/say?: i would first apologize for my mistake, correcting it ICLY if still possible realistically, before asking them to remain respectful, toxicity due to a mistake is still toxicity, in reality we all just want to have fun.
What do you do if you arrest someone? Be short, but detailed: I would first establish probable cause before making the arrest, making sure there is enough evidence to take them in, which I'd gather with eyewitnesses, evidence and overall behavior of the suspect. I’d then place them under arrest, doing an emote somewhat like the following : “Turn around and place your hands behind your back, you’re under arrest.” getting right behind them, snap the cuff on their right hand first, making sure it was tight.. He’d finish cuffing them.] I would then read them their Miranda rights, making sure they understood them, upon agreeing I'd conduct a full-body search for any weapons, contraband or other evidence. Finally, I'd take them to the station, put them in a cell, and answer any questions. Then going back to the main office, filing the proper charges and paperwork needed, such as the arresting officer, the suspect’s name, charges and a brief description of the incident.. I’d proceed back to the cell, cuffing them once again and taking them in for processing, taking a mugshot of them and finally taking them back to their cell.
If someone is behaving strangely, as if they were using illegal substances, what do you do?: i’d firstly proceed with caution, prioritizing not only my safety, but others who may be around that could fall victim to an outburst, i’d keep a distance and observe their behavior to determine if they actually pose a threat to themselves or others, if so i’d call for backup before proceeding. Once safe to do so, i’d approach calmly, identifying myself as law enforcement and engage the person with a non-aggressive tone, keeping an eye on them and their movements, i’d wait until my backup arrived (if available) before proceeding confirming with them that they are under the influence, i’d then step up with them, detaining the individual if necessary and conducting a lawful search, depending on their condition, taking them to the clinic for proper medical evaluation before the arrest process begins, including a officer telling them their Miranda Rights and logging any evidence discovered.
If someone will not give you their identity and you don’t have probable cause, what do you do?: If I encountered someone who refused to tell me their identity, and I did not have probable cause.. I would respect their rights and not escalate the situation which would be a violation on my end.
If someone refuses to identify themselves because of the 5th amendment, but you have probable cause, what do you do?: if someone refuses to identify themselves, but i have probable cause i can still lawfully detain or arrest them. While the fifth amendment protects individuals from self-incrimination, it does not allow them to withhold basic information during a lawful arrest or detention. If they continue to refuse, I would inform them that failure to do so may result in additional charges, such as obstruction or failure to comply.
Provide us with your character’s backstory. Please attempt to limit yourself to more-or-less 1,500 words (maximum 2,500): Rick Price was born and bred in East Falls, a small community with more grit than charm, where kids learned early on to keep their heads down and fists ready. His mother, Angela, worked a double shift at the local supermarket, all so she could keep a roof over Rick's head, His father? A ghost walked out when Rick was 8 years old and never looked back. Rick learned real fast that if he wanted to get something done, he’d have to do it himself.
By his thirteenth birthday, Rick was already in the crossfire of survival and trouble, getting into fights, mostly in school but sometimes even on his walk home, He wasn’t a bully.. But he had a temper and didn’t take kindly into being pushed around. Most people took him for another kid heading towards the ever-close dead end, and for a while they were right.
But Rick wasn’t stupid, behind his rough posture and bruised face was something sharper, an awareness. He saw what happened to kids like him; Jail, Addiction or something worse, so when he turned eighteen he joined the army, Not because he wanted to serve his country or fight in a war.. Just because he wanted out, and the army had their doors wide open.
Rick gave four years of his life, three of them overseas in a combat unit, It gave him structure.. Discipline and a way of life different from east falls, He excelled, but the army has a way of chewing up even the strongest men, One night on patrol.. Something went wrong, a piece of shrapnel just above his right eye, and a scar that never quite faded.
When his enlistment ended, Rick went home.. But East Falls hadn’t changed, the same corner dealers, empty houses and dead-end lives, But HE had changed.. He wasn’t a kid anymore, and he refused to go backwards. The army taught him a few things.. But now he wanted to fight for his town, Something that mattered. He went into the police academy, working his ass off until he turned 28, Finally joining the force.. He didn't join to be a hero, he just thought he could do some good.
