How much do you know about first-aid and general medicine?:

While I’m not a doctor or medically certified in real life, I’ve done plenty of research on injuries and how to treat them as my experience of being a nurse on different roleplay servers along with researching results of certain scenarios my characters find themselves in. I’ve got a lot of it stuck in my noggin and I know the basics of cleaning a cut and stitching up a wound and how many songs you can do the beat of to keep someone alive while doing CPR.

I’m still not the most wise in medicine but I am always willing to learn. I love learning, especially about medical-related things.

Give us 3 examples of injuries, and their resolution:

A Cut - A cut is treated by cleaning the wound thoroughly with a saline solution while stopping any bleeding with firm pressure. Depending on how severe the cut is, the wound may need to be closed with stitches but in most cases, they will just place some sterile gauze over the cut and wrap it with adhesive bandages. In some cases, a patient will be sent with some antibiotic ointment to be applied to the cut to prevent infection.

3rd-Degree Burn - The burn is carefully cleaned to prevent any infection. During this time, the doctor will remove any dead skin and debris. Antibiotic ointment will be applied to the area as well as wrap it in bandage not only to keep the ointment on the affected area but to prevent any debris from getting on the burn. The bandage should be changed at least once daily but change it as much as you need to. Antibiotics will be also given to prevent any infection, either given via IV or by pills, depending on the size of the burn. Fluids will also be administered, again depending on the size of the burn and of course, pain killers will be provided to help ease the pain caused by the burn. Skin grafts are done if the burn is quite large and that’s when they take skin from a different - healthy - part of your body and place it over the damaged area. Other surgeries are also available for repairing the skin if chosen by the patient.

A Broken Leg -  You start with stabilizing the leg with a splint to prevent further damage and to prevent it from moving. Depending on the severity of the fracture, surgery may be needed to realign the bones with metal plates to hold the pieces together in order for the bone to heal properly. A cast is applied to the leg using cotton either plaster or fiberglass which prevents the cast from moving around. Painkillers are additionally prescribed to help ease the pain. Physical therapy is prescribed after the cast is taken off to help get you back the way you were as being in a cast’s whole point is to limit the movement with the broken bone to allow it to heal!

Why do you want to join the hospital faction on Echoes? Answer this OOC:

In short, I love medical roleplaying.

I don’t know what it is about MedicalRP that I love but it’s just something that I am always interested in. When roleplaying with friends and their character slips or gets a cut, I just enjoy being the one putting a bandaid on their finger but using extensive detail when actioning it.

How would you deal with someone that was FailRPing inside of the hospital?:

I would politely inform them of the rules and how that can not happen, whether that’s regarding a medical injury that can not occur or simply how they’re roleplaying it out such as the wisteria side effects.

If they don’t take my advice, I will report them to a staff member.

Provide us with 2 some-what detailed actions of your character helping an injured person. You can choose the injury or illness.

/me gently places her gloved hand on the patient’s cheek. “The light will be bright, sweetheart.” The woman informs softly as her other hand brings up a small light and shines it into the patient's eyes. With a soft ‘tsk’ she steps back, turning off the light with a soft click. “You’ve got a concussion, sweet pea. Lay back down for me ‘nd get comfortable. You need some rest. I will get you some Tylenol and some water but you focus on resting, understand?” She said, faking being serious before stepping away from the patient, closing the blue curtain for privacy as she fetches that medication.

/me makes a soft ‘shh shh..’ sound as she applies firm pressure to the cut on the crying patient’s forehead. “You’re doing great, sweetie.” The woman says with a reassuring smile before slowly moving the piece of cotton away from the cut, quickly wiping the area with a cotton ball soaked with saline solution. Once the area was clean, she swiftly places a couple of sterile strips over the cut, closing it up as best as possible. The woman reaches onto the side table, grabbing a sterile packet of gauze before placing it onto the treated cut, holding it in place before grabbing a roll of adhesive bandage and wrapping it around the patient’s head, keeping that gauze put. “Don’t worry, it won’t take any of that lovely hair off but do not take this off for the next few weeks okay? Come on in whenever you need it changed and I will get you a prescription for those painkillers I mentioned earlier, alright? Wait here.” She smiles at the patient, gently patting their shoulder before stepping out of the room, closing the door behind her.

Provide us with your character’s backstory. Please attempt to limit yourself to more-or-less 1,500 words (maximum 2,500):

Maribelle Beauregard was born in Bell Buckle Tennessee in 1942 on May 18th. She was born into a quite large family, already having three older siblings and ten more coming after she was born. Her family did not make a lot of money but they made their money by selling animal products to their neighbors near their farm. As soon as she was five, she was quickly one of her mama’s helpers, helping her mix up pancakes and learning how to make cornbread. As she got older, the more things she did around the house, and by the time she was 16, she was helping make dinner and feeding the animals at home whilst taking care of all of her younger siblings. When she was 18, she decided to leave farm life and go to college to get her degree to get a good-paying job. She saved up her money and went to South College Nashville to get her master's in nursing which took her six years. When she was 22, she had an unexpected pregnancy, giving the world her son, Adam. While this did set her back, that didn’t stop her from her studies and making sure that she could provide a proper life for herself and her baby boy. In 1966, she graduated with her Masters and Bachelors. With this, she completed her nursing program and applied for her license in Tennessee. After more work and patience, she finally was a registered nurse and began work at a hospital at the age of 23. She spent 17 years working at that hospital and during this time, her son Adam decided to move to East Falls Wyoming where she got a letter from him telling her that he missed her and that she should move here. Hesitant to leave Tennessee, she ultimately decided to move and work at the local clinic just to see her only son and make some new friends. Maybe even find love in this quiet town.

A printed message would be on the paper, “Hello! Thank you for applying to Echoes’ Hospital. We appreciate your interest! Please read through this paper and answer the questions. We will consider you for hiring once it is submitted. We will try to get back to you as soon as we possibly can. Thank you again!” The paper was signed by the hospital director.

Degree(s):

Nursing - Masters | Obtained in 1966

Chemistry - Bachelors | Obtained in 1964

Biology - Bachelors | Obtained in 1964

What position are you applying for? You may state a position that is not currently available, and it will be checked once that slot opens:

“I am applying to be a clinician for this clinic, more specifically a nurse as I’ve been registered for 15 years.”

Why do you want to work on our team?:

“Well, my son said it would be a good idea. I used to work at a hospital in Tennessee and I’d love to help y’all here. I’m certified in laboratory technology ‘nd I’ve got nearly 20 years of experience.”

Provide a list of staff titles and their jobs/descriptions:

“Well there’s the clinic lead, you, who picks out doctors or nurses or really anyone with a medical degree and certification and hires them. You also oversee the care your workers give the patients, you oversee treatment plans and help your clinicians out as well.”
“Clinicians, such as myself, work with patients and treat illnesses. We run tests to figure out the proper diagnosis and treatment plan for patients. We also document medical history and different treatment plans we’ve done.”

Whilst in the hospital how should you and your co-workers behave? If you see something wrong, what should you do about it?:

“Well, we should behave professionally and orderly to put it simply. We’re dealing with all kinds of injuries and if there’s too much goofing around, well that might lead to medical malpractice or even death and especially a heavy lawsuit!”

“If I see something wrong? Well I’d try to inform them of what they’re doing is wrong and try to stop them but if nothing changes, I’d report it to the clinic lead  or a higher-up. Hopefully they’d get a talkin’ to because we’re supposed to be saving people, not goofin’ about!”

What experience do you have working in a medical setting? If none, put N/A:

“I worked at Vanderbilt Bedford Hospital from 1965 to just about a few weeks ago. They were devastated to find out I was leavin’, threw a whole party! In total I worked there for 19 years!”

“I’ve done everything from IVs, stitching up cuts, dealing with hundreds of concussions, redressing wounds, making sure patients get their medication, checking in on patients mainly about how their pain is and how they’re feeling. I could go on and on but you’d fall right asleep!”

What responsibilities do you hold as a hospital staff member?:

“Oh plenty to keep ya busy. Gotta keep the rooms clean, gotta keep everything sterilized, gotta make sure all the cabinets are stocked, gotta make phone calls regarding prescriptions and appointments. You gotta make sure patients are as happy as they can be regarding their situations, make sure they have their medications and food. You gotta make sure family members aren’t stressin’ out too much as well! You can’t forget ‘bout them!”

“To say the least, you can never say you’re ‘bored’ in a hospital. Oh and never say that it’s “quiet”, it’s like you’re asking for a rush!”

How would you manage a patient that was being uncooperative or rowdy?:

“Now, I’ve seen plenty of uncooperative patients in my day. Usually they were husbands being forced to the hospital by their wives or the reckless teenager picked up by EMTs. My solution was always listening to why they didn’t want whatever I was doing and explaining carefully that it was necessary to continue treatment. I would be understanding with them and listen to their boundaries and with that, I’d figure out how I could continue treatment with their concerns and wants. I would always be calm and I would always help them control their breathing by guiding them through the simple in for four, hold for seven, and exhale for eight because most of the time why they’re all rowdy is because they’re scared.”

The paper ended with another message: “Thank you for taking the time to fill out this paper. We truly appreciate it! Before you can submit this, please sign the document!”
