Previous Applications & Experience: 

I have made two applications on the forums so far. One is to become a writer for the server, as I have lots of experience with creative writing and think I'd be a good asset to the overall story of Echoes (This app was just recently accepted). There is also an application for the same business in the East Falls Business subforum. I created the business Discord server and spoke to Alligator_113 about it, and I told them I’d prefer it to be a criminal business, as it better fits all three of our characters’ dynamics. It’s currently pending.

Activity Level: I have not been on regularly, only because the server is so small, and most RPs require organization and agreements between players to engage properly. I do, however, really enjoy making roleplays on this server. I want to start this business to move away from this “drag” of roleplay and allow for more natural interactions between players looking for roleplay (as well as unique criminal events). I would be sure to be online very consistently in order to run this business and keep the interaction open.

This cocktail lounge will act as a club-like experience where the public can buy alcohol such as wine, whiskey, gin, and more. It will also be a free place to smoke, potentially handing out cigars.

Criminal Operations & Purpose: The primary goal of this business is to cater to the powerful criminals of East Falls and act as a meeting place for them to converse about illegal business. They will experience finer service and treatment compared to the general public. There will be private (one or two) rentable rooms that allow criminals to speak and make deals safely. The business idea of the cocktail lounge is that it will buy and sell illegal goods to other criminal businesses or people in town, as a money launderer.

Distinction from Other Fronts: Not only will it act as a meeting place for criminals to make private arrangements and agreements, but it also provides a unique, old-fashioned experience in which the bar centers around a 50s-era style bar and club where all players have the opportunity to interact and make interesting roleplay storylines centering around crime.

Front Operations & Vision:

Primary Criminal Activities: 

Le Voile de la Nuit will specialize in all illegal activities, including smuggling, laundering, and most importantly (though this might fall under a similar category), deals among fellow criminals and gangs. These deals will include requests for protection or assistance in a CriminalRP event.

Conflict & Diplomacy Approach: 

I believe our business would be both aggressive and intelligent. If and when the business experiences competition, we’ll be sure to survey the situation first. This means that if the opposing business is weak enough, Le Voile de la Nuit will try to extinguish their work as soon as possible. However, if they are a more powerful figure, we might request help from allies or use legitimate warfare tactics (most likely psychological) to slowly weaken them over time. 

Regarding law enforcement, our business will focus heavily on avoiding all suspicious activity in front of the public eye; however, should there be an opportunity, we might try to corrupt some of the law for greater protection.

Planned Roleplay Events & Engagements:

Our primary event idea would be a masquerade party at night. It would serve as a way not only for differing criminal groups to mingle and further the opportunity to make deals but also to boost the lounge’s popularity and publicity. I believe this is also a very unique way to get players to interact, as it brings a new yet old-fashioned taste to the town of East Falls. (If possible, we might need a custom masquerade item for this event.)

Summary Statement:

Le Voile de la Nuit’s out-of-character purpose is almost entirely to act as a ‘melting pot’ where any player can come in and have any sort of social interaction, whether it be crime-related, like a business meeting, or simply friendly strangers having a drink. In-character, the cocktail lounge does a similar job in that any criminal characters may rent out meeting rooms to allow for private conversations relating to business, crime events, or planning. It might also act as a strong arm to hold on to, contracting agreements that provide protection or assist allies. The full capabilities of this establishment lie beyond this application, of course, as we’ll need to truly get a feel for what crime is like in Echoes: 1984.

The roleplay contribution of this business has many possibilities beyond player interactions. It could also allow for “gang wars” of sorts, acting as both a powerful enemy or strong asset to whomever pays the most. It could be helpful for hosting or contributing to many different events that come up. 

Finally, I’d like to say that I’m sure this front could truly become a larger part of the lore of Echoes: 1984 in the future, and I already have quite a few ideas for how.

Please explain what your business is (What does your business sell, provide, and/or offer?):

This "cocktail lounge" offers a club-like experience that appeals to illicit entrepreneurs and greedy businessmen alike. It sells various types of alcohol, including wine, gin, whiskey, and more. Although all are welcome, the primary goal of this establishment is to cater to associates and business leaders by providing both public and private rooms for networking, discussions, and socialization. There is also a section for gambling games, like poker, blackjack, and war. Smoking is allowed, and both cigars and pipe tobacco are sold alongside alcoholic drinks for visitors to enjoy.

Please state your reasons for wanting to start this business on Echoes?:

We want to start this business for three main reasons. Firstly, we see this as a potential contribution to the development of the server's storyline. Second, it would help not only my own character's arc but also the employees and anybody willing to visit the establishment. Lastly, I believe that this would be a realistic addition to the server, in that many small towns (especially in the 80s) had bars where anybody could visit. It would act as a good social hotspot for players to interact with each other and have a fun RPing experience.

Please elaborate on the background of the business ICLY and how it formed? (What’s the lore behind it?):

  Marseille Amias, a French immigrant, was a former smuggler in Paris who recently moved to America in order to establish connections with the local dealers and criminals, as a growing town such as East Falls was likely to have many opportunities to make good money. Unfortunately, he wasn't as successful as he had hoped. The criminal underworld of this little town was much more hidden than Marseille anticipated and had trouble finding connections. To his luck, however, he met a young man named Markus Muldoon (emiTYgreenS' character), a small Korean-American boy from Illinois. Similar to Marseille, he was quippy and intelligent, which led to them bonding soon after meeting. After eventually earning one another's trust, Marseille told Markus his plans for the town.

After agreeing to be a scout for potential opportunities, Markus stumbled upon a boarded-up abandoned building while walking the streets of a deserted part of town. His fascination with the run-down building enabled him to get a better look. The exterior of the building had tall, large panel windows that were coated with a layer of dust, making it difficult to see inside. The entrance had two windowed doors with dull brass doorknobs. As Markus stepped closer to the building, he noticed a "For Sale" sign in the window, which instantly sparked an idea. Perhaps if they bought the building, they could turn it into a profitable establishment - primarily for people of crime and sin to meet.

Markus hurried back to Marseille and urged him to buy the building. Because it was so cheap, Marseille agreed. He then figured that not only could it be a successful bar, but he could also use it as a way to set his criminal career in motion. Marseille saw this as the ultimate opportunity to make himself known and gain legitimate power over the town. So, both Markus and Marseille agreed on which role they would play in running the lounge; Marseille, being the more charismatic of the two, would be the owner and face, whilst Markus remained an employee.

Give a brief overview of what a typical opening would look like in your business?:

The cocktail lounge, "Le Voile de la Nuit," opens from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM on weekdays and later (12:00 AM) on weekends. A traditional opening starts by closing the drapes and dimming the lights, capturing the lounge's overall essence. The bartender, Marseille, serves drinks to patrons sitting at the bar, accompanied by a flashy jukebox playing in the background. Meanwhile, Volya (ilovemyplanex2's character), a newly hired waiter, served drinks to guests sitting in nearby lounge chairs or sofas. He also performs various requests from men in private rooms such as providing cigars, drinks, and food. Although the dinner menu is small, it carries delicious traditional French cuisine like filet mignon, duck confit, and ratatouille. Finally, Markus tends to delinquents and rowdy drunks who might be disrupting the rest of the lounge, as well as ensuring everybody has paid by the end of the night.

How prepared are you to handle ICLY and/or OOCLY disturbances related to your business?:

ICLY disturbances tend to be entertaining, as they provide a better RP experience. I do not consider them to be a problem, and I might even encourage them to give our establishment and characters a more charming story. As for OOCLY disturbances like trolling or insults, I'd try to prevent the conversation from going any further and immediately call in staff to deal with the issue.

What will your business need? (Buildings? Items? Characters? Moderation?):

Our business will need its own building with an old-fashioned club-like atmosphere with a large open area for a bar and seating (couches), as well as one or two separate rooms to act as meeting/private rooms. It will also need various types of food and alcohol for the menu. Another important aspect of this lounge is smoking, so cigars or cigarettes will be a good addition.

 Lore, though, I do think I'd do just as well with events.

Why do you want to be a writer for Echoes?:

 Over the years, I've played many different RP servers and have really improved my skills in literature and creativity. I'm especially creative when it comes to describing subtle details like the appearance of a room or person. However, I also really enjoy thinking out and writing lore for both characters and places, which I believe could be brought to Echoes. Because the server is so young, there are many different possibilities and opportunities to allow creative writing to run free without distinct plotholes or restrictions. I want to become a writer specifically to expand on my passion and use this server as an outlet for creativity.

How do you think our current writing could be improved?:

 Currently, I believe the writing isn't as strong as it could be. As I said, this server has many creative possibilities that I feel aren't being fully taken advantage of. I believe there could be more little stories like that of Wysteria to give the server more character and a deeper backstory that keeps people interested.
